The Hydra-matic 4L80E is a 4-speed automatic transmission which uses electronic control
for smooth shifting. It offers a fourth gear overdrive to increase fuel efficiency. A torque converter clutch automatically engages at cruising speeds to improve fuel efficiency. Unlike
hydraulically controlled automatic transmissions, the 4L80-E transmission uses electrical signals to specific gear shift solenoids which produce smooth shifts and quiet operation.
